Le Ferite di Roma

Rome

February 23, 2023 - March 25, 2023

Le Ferite di Roma (The Wounds of Rome), a project curated by Spazio Taverna, reflects on ten dramatic episodes in the history of the city, from the assassination of Julius Cesar on the Ides of March in 44 BC within the portico of the Theatre of Pompey, to the discovery of Aldo Moro’s body on May 9, 1978, in Via Caetani.
The two curators of the project, Ludovico Pratesi and Marco Bassan, have chosen to remember these ten wounds by assigning each one to the free interpretation of an artist. The individuals depicted in this narrative are well-known figures in the collective imagination. Consider Giordano Bruno, whose towering statue was erected in Campo de’ Fiori in 1889, the very place where the philosopher was immolated in February 1600. Also, Cola di Rienzo, the Tribune of the Roman People, who passed away in 1354, commemorated since 1887 with a monument on the slopes of the Capitoline Hill. Other figures include Beatrice Cenci, Giacomo Matteotti, and Pier Paolo Pasolini. The artists tasked with symbolically addressing these ten wounds through the medium of drawing on paper were: Elisabetta Benassi, Marco Tirelli, Gabriele Silli, Silvia Giambrone, Enzo Cucchi, Luigi Ontani, Pietro Ruffo, Giulio Bensasson, Lulù Nuti, and Rä Di Martino.
