The Conwith – Salvatore Falci catalog is a recognition of the artist’s forty-year work in the field of visual arts, emphasizing – as the title clearly indicates – the necessity of the other and the co-presence as an essential element in the act of artistic creation.
Falci studies and implements projects where he only plays a role in the preparation phase. The result is therefore never determined by the artist but is created in a completely spontaneous and natural way by ordinary people while performing normal activities. For this reason, the artist is forced to elaborate processes which, at first glance, appear aseptic, far from the common idea of an artwork. Only later, after human intervention, can they fully define themselves as Art. This intention is at the origin of the research shared with Pino Modica and Stefano Fontana, who were later joined by Cesare Pietroiusti, giving life in the early 1980s to the artistic partnership identified as the Piombino Group.
From this collaboration will be born experiments and works such as, for example: SOSTA 15 MINUTI (1983) in which passers-by are invited to sit on chairs, although these are both limit and object to be contemplated, and the Vetri (1984), work in which the plates superimposed on the tables for public use are painted black and record the scratches and wear. In 1986, the need to introduce the lower limbs into artistic reflection emerged: thus, the Pavimenti, created through platforms with layers of paint, which do not record the normal gait, but only anomalous or particularly intense traces resulting from actions such as rubbing, falling or scratching.
Among these and other more recent works – some recreated specifically for the exhibition, such as L’Erba del Ponte di Sant’Eufemia (Grass of Bridge of Sant’Eufemia) – Salvatore Falci’s extensive career becomes a privileged observation point for investigating human behavior. Through his art, Falci actively engages the viewers urging them to recognize their potential role in shaping artistic theories and, by extension, driving societal evolution forward.
